Company sales for the 2011 fiscal year were € 582.8 million and therefore nominally 10.2% above the prior year figure of € 528.8 million. When adjusted for acquisitions and exchange rate effects, this amounts to organic growth of 5.7%.

During the course of the 2011 fiscal year, the number of full-time employees increased to 4,848, of whom 104 persons are apprentices.

Sales by division

We develop, manufacture and sell orthopaedic technology products (Orthobionic®) and rehabilitation products (Bionicmobility®) worldwide. In addition to products for prosthetic fittings, the Orthobionic® product range also includes orthoses and epitheses as well as devices for passive exercise therapy. We are global market leader in prosthetics. Products in the Bionicmobility® division include high-quality lightweight and active wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, child rehabilitation devices and seating shell elements, neuroimplants and products for functional electrostimulation. In 2011, 83.7% of our net sales were attributed to the Orthobionic® division.

We have achieved good nominal growth rates in both business divisions. When adjusted for exchange rate effects and acquisitions, in the Bionicmobility® business area, that rate was 11.2%, and in the Orthobionic® business area 4.6%.

Sales by Region

We have generated positive growth in all regions. Again, the growth drivers were the up and coming markets in the region of Latin America. Growth there, after being adjusted for exchange rate effects, was a satisfactory 25.7%. In the regions EEMEA (East Europe/Middle East/Africa), North America and Asia/Pacific, we saw an exchange-rate-adjusted growth rate of between five and seven per cent. Driven by the acquisition of several orthopaedic workshops, nominal growth in Western Europe was very strong, at 14.9%. Organic growth in Western Europe has now reached 2.9%. This has generated approx. 70% of absolute sales growth of Ottobock in Western Europe.
